I am adding something special to my etsy store, artful bliss, and I wanted to give you a sneak peek…

I love to use hands in my artwork and I had a lot of fun taking these pictures. The last picture is an example of a pendant I made for a round robin I’m participating in. I have also used these hands in assemblage and other mixed media work. I hope these will inspire you to create many beautiful and creative masterpieces.

I will be listing the first set of hands tonight. I should receive more sets of hands later this week and will add them as demand dictates.

Has anyone heard of ArtFire? It’s similar to etsy but with some big differences… This site seems much more techie than Etsy. You can link up with facebook, twitter, and google analytics. The listing portal is much simpler (one page!) than etsy’s.  And the best part, there are no listing fees and no commission fees. As soon as word gets ArtFire is going to give Etsy a run for their money! Here is a link to my artful bliss – the cupboards are kinda bare but you’ll get the idea. I bought these doll heads weeks ago. They finally arrived and I can’t believe how much I love them! It’s almost as if I got Christmas twice. I want to keep them all and give them each their own name; dress them up and play with them. All different, creamy shades of white; all with some charming imperfection. These are my perfectly imperfects, as I like to refer to them. Some of them are so tiny I can’t even imagine how teensy their little bodies must have been.  Some have hair, some have hats, and some are bald. Some of them have a lot of detail and others have no definite features. Some are chalky bisque and some are glossy white. All deliciously yummy! I am going to have a hard time deciding which ones to keep and which ones to sell. These will be available in the next day or so in my etsy store, artful bliss.

I think my etsy shop looks better than ever. I got rid of most of those eBay-type-mug-shot thumbnails I had on my listings. I hope the new snazzy pics entices everyone to buy, buy, buy! Click on the photos below to link directly to the items at artful bliss.

Besides the use of props giving the after pics some visual interest, I think they are a huge improvement and I’m pleased. What do you think? By the way, you can buy the little vintage coin purse at artful bliss, my Etsy store.

I’ve been so frustrated with my digital camera. I’ve had my Nikon Coolpix S7c for a year now and although I’ve read the user guide a couple times, I still struggle! Should I stick with totally auto settings? Or should I make manual adjustments to the exposure and white balance? What the heck does the macro setting do? Nothing I’ve tried has helped. How could it be so difficult? How do other people take such wonderful pictures and why couldn’t I? I just want to point, shoot, download and upload with as little manipulation in between. Unfortunately, my end result hasn’t been worthy of the shred pile let alone, my new Etsy shop, Artful Bliss.

I was about to give up! Imagine my pleasure when I recently stumbled upon this brilliant artist’s 1000 Market blog. Anandi creates wonderful hand-stamped gifts and jewelry for people and their pets. She is very talented and creative and I’ve enjoyed reading her insightful posts. She recently began a multi-part series and the first installment titled Product photography – the bane of my existence, Part I, resonated strongly with me. Her tips are awesome and after reading Part I, I couldn’t wait for her next post.

The remaining additions to the series are as smart as the first: Product photography – why is this so hard, part II;  Product photography – all the world’s a scary stage, part III; Product photography – where’s that darn photo, part III.V; Product photography – editing, not just for newspapers, part IV.  Anandi combines humor with common sense, tips & tricks, her best known methods, and excellent writing style into one of the best, most constructive blogs I have read. I have learned a lot and now need to put the concepts into practice!

I haven’t been very good lately about updating my blog. I’ve had a lot going on. And it’s so much easier to post a sentence or two on facebook or twitter. Not only have the holidays snuck up on me, some life changing events are working their way into my world. More on that later (maybe).

Anyway, I’ve opened an Etsy store and have listed a few items on eBay. I can honestly say, I love selling almost as much as buying! Thanks to my friend Keli for encouraging me and for being my first customer! Most of the items I’ve sold are found objects and little antique German dolls…

I have vision of what I would like to make for sale and I actually started some art but it still needs some work.

Yesterday I was so happy to get together with my art friends (Melissa, Diane, Sue, Marci, and Michelle). Marci was inspired by the cover of the latest Cloth Paper Scissors magazine. She brought all kinds of goodies and we all had fun filling up little jars and bottles and then glittering and glamming up our little snowmen. Michelle was kind enough to post pictures and is allowing us to borrow them.

Last week, before I knew what Marci had in mind, I bought one of Kecia’s little snowmen on her new 1000 Markets site. She still has a couple out there if you’re interested. Here’s a picture of my cute trio at work…

In addition to the fun art sutff, Marci and Sue brought home-made goodies. I’m trying to wrangle the recipes from them both.

Before we know it Christmas will be here. I still haven’t pulled out any decorations and I’m not sure I will.
