Sunday I was dying for some good old comfort food. You know… something with grease and carbs! Well, I was introduced to the best junk food ever: Five Guys Burgers and Fries. They’re located in Beaverton and it was SO busy… even for a Sunday afternoon. The hamburgers are 100% beef and hand pressed. The fries are hand cut and fried in peanut oil. All goodies and condiments are added at no additional charge. I had a cheeseburger with grilled onions and grilled mushrooms and an order of fries. Next time I’ll be ordering a smaller sized burger because the thing was huge. The fries are delicious and a definite guilty splurge! The ambiance isn’t anything special but the food was great  (check out their no-frills menu) and more than makes up for it. If you happen to be out and about and find yourself traveling near Cedar Hills Boulevard and Walker Road, stop in for a bite to eat and tell me what you think.

It never fails. Every time we change the clock, it takes a while for my body to get used to the idea. You know it’s really fall when it’s dark by the time you get off work. I hate the short days. It doesn’t help that I live in rainy Oregon. I really could use more sunshine this time of year. I think we should keep daylight savings time year-round. I came upon this website that is promoting some interesting ideas. Here is their proposal:

We have a modest proposal to end daylight saving time that will reap large benefits in addition to ending the semi-annual changing of the clock.

It has not escaped our notice that in the United States, Eastern standard time is the same as Central daylight time and Mountain standard time is the same as Pacific Daylight Time. Thus, we propose that the Pacific and Central time zones remain on permanent daylight saving time, and that the Mountain and Eastern time zones remain on permanent standard time.

In addition to releasing us from the burden of having to set our clocks every few months, this will also reduce the number of time zones in the United States from four to two. Thus, for example, New York, Philadelphia, Chicago, and Dallas will now all be operating on the same time, and people will no longer have to adjust to different time zones when they do business or travel between any of these cities. People traveling or doing business between the East and West coasts will only have a two hour time difference to contend with, instead of the three hour difference with which we are currently burdened.

This proposal will simplify scheduling, travel, and commerce. And by ending semi-annual clock tampering, it will also allow people to get more sleep, be better adjusted to their daily routine, avoid missed appointments resulting from failure to reset clocks, and, most importantly, save lives (& stay on Daylight Savings Time in Oregon).

Please help to bring about an end to the mad, semi-annual ritual of changing our clocks, by taking just a few moments to add your name to our petition, which will be forwarded to the appropriate government officials. I love parties. I love planning parties. I love seeing good friends, meeting new people, and making new friends.  And I especially love it when I have a party and everyone mixes well, enjoys the food, and has a great time together. Well, the JouJou Workshop with Deryn Mentock was one of those successful events. It was small enough that everyone had a chance to get to know each other.

Deryn is a gifted and generous artist. Her work is creative and her style is individual. She is warm and genuine and I really enjoyed being in her class. She will be teaching this class again at ArtNest in 2009. If you are able to go, do! You will be so glad you did.

The attendees were amazingly talented. Everyone arrived with a different level of expertise. Everyone left with a beautiful, wearable work of art. The personal touches everyone put into their work made each piece unique. The pictures below do not do justice to the wonderful creations. I had such a wonderful time at Art & Soul. It’s always over too soon. The people who attend are some of the most wonderful women I’ve met. And the classes are always great. I don’t know why, but I was extremely tired the whole five days. I was feeling foggy and slow; not creative at all. I didn’t take my camera so no pictures this time. And even though I tried as hard as I could, I felt disorganized. I did learn some things though and did create some things I’m happy with. But next year, I’m staying at the hotel!

The best things were seeing friends again and meeting online friends in person. Oh, and of course, the shopping!
